A typical beautiful antique Armenian rug from Sunik region that contains geometric motifs & Armenian sacred symbols. This is a tribal hand-made carpet woven from natural wools & with colors that are vegetable-based dyes. The knot is Persian (or asymmetrical).
The rug has three beautifully designed borders;
• First & third borders: running dog border pattern;
• Second border: a repeating series of typical Armenian cross shapes. The crosses are believed to have religious significance since they are consistent with the motifs found in Armenian manuscripts & relief sculptures on Armenian churches & monasteries.
The middle design: the carpet contains in the middle a series of typical “Armenian church rattlers” that are used to drive evil spirits away from the sacred place.
Material: 100% wool;
Edge finish: Typical Armenian carpets have an edge finish. The edges are overcast - covered with a simple running stitch or selvaged (finished with a woven band) reinforcing the edges;
